Guy Voizey has been selected by the Liberal Democrats as their prospective candidate to fight the South Thanet parliamentary constituency at the next General Election.
Mr Voizey is looking forward to the next election, whenever it is held. "It is clear that only the Liberal Democrats offer a clear alternative to Labour" said Guy. "We are the only party which will abolish the Council Tax. This single action will make life much more comfortable for thousands of people in South Thanet. Labour, unfortunately, has ducked the issue of how to replace the Conservatives' most unjust tax. We will also abolish university tuition and top-up fees and increase the value of the pension."
The contest between Labour and the Liberal Democrats will be particularly interesting in South Thanet. One of the Liberal Democrats' core policies is to introduce free personal care for the elderly. A Royal Commission, set up by Labour, recommended that free personal care should be introduced. In Scotland, where the Liberal Democrats have been in coalition with Labour, free personal care has been introduced. In England, where Steve Ladyman is the minister responsible, it has not.
"At the next election, the voters in South Thanet will have a clear choice between the Liberal Democrats and Labour. The Liberal Democrats will abolish the Council Tax, tuition and top-up fees. The Liberal Democrats would not have gone to war in Iraq. On all these issues, there are clear differences between the Liberal Democrats and Labour", emphasised Guy.
Guy Voizey is a resident of Thanet, and also contested South Thanet for the Liberal Democrats in the 2001 General Election. He is a financial journalist and works in Sandwich. He can be contacted on 01843 269375 or email: guyvoizey@hotmail.com
