Guy Voizey, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for South Thanet, has criticised the Labour Government for its failure to provide adequate funding for the necessary upgrades to the A256.
"It is clear Thanet's economic future relies on improved transport links. First we hear there will be no fast track rail service between Thanet and London before 2009, if at all. Now we hear there is no funding for any further work on the road between Sandwich and Ramsgate", said Mr Voizey.
"Ironically, this news came out on the day a set of temporary traffic lights at Cliffsend caused a traffic jam back to Westwood. It took over an hour to travel from Westwood to Sandwich on Friday morning", said Mr Voizey. "If Labour was serious about developing the East Kent economy, it would ensure funding for these crucial infrastructure projects."
