The regional party needs to make a number of changes to its constitution. Primarily, these are the result of changes made to the English Party's Constitution in July 2009. They relate to the relationship between the party and Liberal Democrat council groups, and came into effect immediately after the General Election. In particular, regional parties have been given the task of 'recognising' Liberal Democrat groups so that they can use the party's name. The majority of the changes to our constitution are in Sections 4 and 6.
There are also minor changes relating to:
- the level of conference representation (Section 2.6),
- the need of the region formally to appoint a Training Co-ordinator (Section 5.3), and
- the minimum level of donations reported under PPERA (Section 9).
Though the regional constitution is already governed by the English Constitution, the regional executive discussed these changes and agreed that they should be discussed by members and formally voted on at the regional conference to be held in Eastbourne on Saturday 23rd October 2010.
The proposed regional constitution is available on the SE website using the link http://tinyurl.com/yk9xqt5. The draft changes have been marked in red and deletions in blue.
